Hayfever is a common allergic condition of the nose which usually starts in childhood. Sufferers have an itchy, runny, blocked nose, often with associated eye problems, during the June/July grass pollen season. Some develop symptoms earlier in spring with the tree pollen season. Others have nasal symptoms all year round due to perennial allergens such as house dust mite.
Allergy tests are used to identify and confirm the allergens giving rise to the nasal and/or eye symptoms. Avoiding these allergens, where possible, can minimise symptoms.
A treatment plan can then be formulated for each patient according to their particular symptoms.
